Minnesota’s workforce reality requires increased talent recruitment and retention to tackle a worker shortage expected to explode the number of unfilled technical positions from the current 60,000 to close to 200,000 by the end of 2022.

On September 19, gubernatorial candidates, business leaders, educators, and community members will have the opportunity to strategize, plan, and partner together on efforts to meet the state’s short and long-term talent needs at the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce’s Talent Symposium.

Approximately 400-500 participants, with an additional audience via live streaming, will gather to “share and generate promising practices, investments, and partnerships that will help attract, develop and retain a thriving, diverse workforce for the region, foster business engagement, and set the stage for statewide policy efforts aimed at supporting talent attraction, development and retention,” TwinWest shared with American Experiment. The Center’s Great Jobs Without a Four-Year Degree project is a sponsor of the event.

In the Audience:

    • Business leaders (including C-suite, DEI, HR and others),

 

    • K-12 educators and leadership (superintendents, CTE consortium, principals, counselors, etc.)

 

    • Postsecondary leaders (MN State leaders, Private College leadership, Dunwoody and Rasmussen, college presidents, Workforce Partnerships Deans and others)

 

    • Government (DLI, DEED, municipalities and counties)

 

    • Funders (MSPWin members and others, including Carlson, Cargill, Opus, Bremer)

 

    • Targeted nonprofits in region and others in workforce development

 

    • Others targeted partners and current/future allies, including legislators

 

Registration and breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19 at the Minneapolis Marriott West on Wayzata Boulevard, and programming will run from 7:30-10:30 a.m.
