With all the possible career paths for young people to explore today, it can be overwhelming to know where to begin looking. But thanks to Couragion Corporation, students can explore STEM career options that they may or may not know exist and discover new interests they might like to pursue.

Couragion provides a fun and engaging application that exposes students to STEM careers using videos, games, and self-reflection quizzes.

The app features diverse role models in their actual work environments and opens students’ minds to the vast opportunities available in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields.

Students start off building a profile within the Couragion application to help determine what job characteristics and work environments are most attractive to them and best align with their values and interests.

After completing this selection process, students view videos about real people— “role models”—who currently work in the career paths being explored. The videos give insight into what skills each position requires and the type of work performed. Students also learn about each career’s job outlook, median salary details, and education requirements.

From game developers and water engineers to cancer researchers and horticultural scientists, Couragion’s real-world career exploration app helps students access some of the fastest growing STEM careers.

And now with Couragion’s partnershipwith CareerWise Colorado—a nonprofit implementing a statewide, three-year youth-apprenticeship program for high school students—education and career join forces.

Together, the two organizations will deliver career exploration that illuminates multiple potential pathways and supports students in their apprenticeship decision-making and selection processes. It’s their collective belief that modern career-exploration leads to exceptional apprenticeship experiences, and ultimately to meaningful careers.

Keeping students informed about career pathways while simultaneously supporting them in selecting and obtaining apprenticeships results in skilled-workforce development for hard-to-fill positions. This partnership is a great example of what’s possible in other states, as well. Students in Minnesota can use the Couragion app to get exposure to careers based on their own interests and strengths and then take advantage of the many great apprenticeship programs here. The Center’s “Great Jobs Without a Four-Year Degree” websitedetails out some of these opportunities.
